In Pursuit of Your Name On the day of your birth, in a Mexican home, You were given the name of a goddess from Rome: You can say you were made a Latina for real. For the places of birth of your body and name Were to make up the ends of a trip on a plane You would take as a baby to go overseas. For your destitute mother had no other option Than to send you to Europe for good, and adoption, As if your body and name had been your destiny’s seals. Chrous: You’re roaming the world in pursuit of your name. You go through these changes but you remain the same. Remaining yourself means exchanging more and more: That’s the hardest and best thing about going door to door. When you landed in France, you were peaceful and calm, As if you’d read your own fate in the lines of your palm And it wasn’t too heavy a burden to bear. Neither were you surprised, nor did you shiver or blush, When you were renamed after a river in Russia: After all, your own sense of home is always elsewhere. You accumulate roots instead of sticking to one, Since you add to your self the places towards which you run, And I wonder what name you will get once you’re there. Chorus

Isis 02:46
Isis Oh, what would Isis say Upon seeing her name abused To designate men who slay At random, pretending they choose? The Goddess’s sole insurrection Was against mortality: She was all about resurrection, Death was no finality. Chorus: We give Isis a bad name When we call them Isis We give Isis a bad name Let’s not fuel their crisis. She was to teach Orpheus her tricks When he took the tube that morning With his guitar and his licks, But tonight, it’s him I’m mourning. For Isis’ namesakes blew the train And let all hell break loose: The bard was killed as he strained To rehearse a farewell blues. Chorus Isis had not reached the train When Orpheus got on board: She’d been shot down like some plane Before she could join the bard. The pair of wings she used to flap To restore the dead with breath Were cut off by those madcaps Who stand for nothing but death. Chorus

The Last Teaching of Jess 1st Verse : Some will be ready to tell you “She said she did this for God,” Or “she said she did this for you,” In any case it’s odd. You know, this morning at school, The teacher set herself aflame With a match and some fuel. They say “Nobody’s to blame.” Chorus: I wonder, (Wonder!) It’s hard to sort out the mess, I wonder, (Wonder!) What was the last teaching of Jess? 2nd Verse: Did she want us to see the show When she did this in the schoolyard? Did she want us to know That teaching is getting hard? They say our best prophet Died for our sake: Did she want us to profit Or to follow in her wake? Chorus 3rd Verse: Throughout it all, she was serene. She walked with self-restraint. Can you picture the scene? She wasn’t the first to faint. She was weighing each step As if they were words to heed. Does the memory she left Still induce you to read? Chorus (x2)

In Your Face 04:09
In Your Face Verse 1 You keep talking about the real Thing and the magic touch, But when start dealing with the real Magic of the magical real, You say I’m a little too much, You say I’m a little too much. Verse 2 You say that I can fuss over such and such (Such and such), Not knowing if I can ever touch The world outside my mind for real, The world outside my mind for real, woo! Verse 3: But there’s something about your ever moving face That tells me otherwise (otherwise): It says it’s not the case And I can believe my eyes. Because it’s all in your face, Yeah it’s all in your face. Chorus: It’s all in your face, It’s all in your face. Spoken word: Unpredictable yet deterministic, There’s something in your face that’s kind of mystic. It’s always expressing itself, so that it always escapes my grasp And it keeps me desiring you because it gives me a sense of infinity, A sense of infinite Otherness. And it lets me know that… there’s a world out there. Yeah, you’re the reason why I know there’s a world out there. Because it’s all in your face. Chorus.

J'Arrive 03:58
De l’eau d’ici à l’au-delà : Me voilà. Refrain (x2)
6.
Brussels Hustle Chorus: I’ve got a brand-new dance (Brussels, Hustle) I’ve got a brand-new dance (Big bad Brussels) Verse 1: Big bad Brussels Do the hustle We’ve got to make this party go HAM Beat rush hour And the night is ours You can do better than those traffic jams Chorus Verse 2: Big bad Brussels I know you bustle But you’ve got to move a little more Ain’t no stumper Bumper to bumper Is only worth it on the dancefloor Chorus Breakdown: Now dance, dance, dance, to the Brussels Hustle Chorus
7.
My Odyssey, Eurydice All you retro specters : never mind looking back, As long as you stick to the right track. Verse 1 I went down to the crossroads And I went upriver: All the way down to the devil’s abode, Without a quiver. And I asked him for the grace Of looking at your face again, But he said “Go back to Thrace, You came here in vain.” Chorus: Talking about my Odyssey, Eurydice, Conjuring you from the fumes of my fantasy. Verse 2 So I serenaded his wife Until she felt compelled To let me lead you back to life And out of hell. She yielded to the soaring sounds Of my blasting blue notes, But changed her mind when I turned around To reach out for your ghost. Chorus
8.
A Future Full of Joy The present’s been surpassed By a past that’s over-present: Somebody make a forecast And offer it as a present! And if the future’s already there, Can somebody please show me where? Chorus: Can you show me a picture Of a future full of joy? Free me from the strictures Of being yesterday’s toy! My memory’s so saturated That it goes further back than birth And forces me to carry the weight Of my forebears’ sorrow on this earth, But I ain’t looking for amnesia; I just need a little anesthesia (Every once in a while, so) Chorus Sure, I know foresight is a gift That may well poison my present, But I so badly need a lift That only imagination’s pleasant: Perhaps the future was made a mystery So as to counterbalance the weight of history. Chorus (Passé surprésent, Présent surpassé, Qu’on me fasse le présent D’un oracle avisé/à viser.)
9.
Prophetic Vision (Of the Past) Verse 1 Have you ever seen the future? Well, here it comes. Ooh… Listen baby. Some people think of Paradise As of a past we can’t retrieve, So they end up paralyzed, Naively looking back at Eve. But ever since I met you, Dear, And had this sense of déjà vu, I know the past could come this year And heaven I may build with you. Chorus: I have just come to this decision: I think I want this love to last Because you fulfill this prophetic vision That I’ve had of the past. Yes you do… Verse 2 Some people say that God is dead; What if He wasn’t born yet? Genesis is what lies ahead: Let’s make love before we forget. Eden is but an ancient image Of what we shall one day achieve, So let’s embark on this pilgrimage: Just take my hand and say that you believe. Chorus: I have just come to this decision: I know I want this love to last Because you fulfill this prophetic vision That I’ve had of the past. Woo hoo! Baby, baby… Heee! Chorus x 2

Vatic Vintage Oh, when will you realize? The old ones told no lies Speaking of men who sang verse That made rivers flow in reverse And caused the winds to rise and rise. Oh, when will you realize? Oh when will you take heed? Nature responds to our deeds: We’ve been misusing our power And it’s the eleventh hour. You reap what you sow ’til you run out of seeds Unless you take heed. Oh, when will you take note? We’ve been like rats on a sinking boat (hey hey) And the only reason she’s going under Is that we turn a blind eye to our blunders. Soon there’ll be nothing left afloat Unless you take note (and let it sink in). Do take these notes! Understand we’re vatic! Ain’t got toys in the attic (no no...) We can change this earth’s course (we can change!) But we must endorse that force. Can’t you feel the static? Understand we’re vatic! Understand we’re vatic Understand we’re vintage (old school) Understand we’re vatic (poetic and prophetic) Understand we’re vintage (futuristic, haha!) Understand we’re vatic (say, do you understand?) Understand we’re vintage.
