On the day of your birth, in a Mexican home,
You were given the name of a goddess from Rome:
You can say you were made a Latina for real.

For the places of birth of your body and name
Were to make up the ends of a trip on a plane
You would take as a baby to go overseas.

For your destitute mother had no other option
Than to send you to Europe for good, and adoption,
As if your body and name had been your destiny’s seals.

You go through these changes but you remain the same.
