My Odyssey, Eurydice

from Vatic Vintage (LP) by Leo Courbot

/

about

A psychedelic jazz version of the myth of Orpheus & Eurydice, which is present in many songs of this Vatic Vintage LP: "Vatic" (poetic and prophetic) comes from the Latin "vates," or poet prophet, which was Ovid's nickname for Orpheus.

lyrics

My Odyssey, Eurydice

All you retro specters : never mind looking back,
As long as you stick to the right track.

Verse 1
I went down to the crossroads
And I went upriver:
All the way down to the devil’s abode,
Without a quiver.

And I asked him for the grace
Of looking at your face again,
But he said “Go back to Thrace,
You came here in vain.”

Chorus:
Talking about my Odyssey, Eurydice,
Conjuring you from the fumes of my fantasy.

Verse 2
So I serenaded his wife
Until she felt compelled
To let me lead you back to life
And out of hell.

She yielded to the soaring sounds
Of my blasting blue notes,
But changed her mind when I turned around
To reach out for your ghost.

Chorus
